The geology of the main island of Puerto Rico is displayed in three separate coverages; West, Central, and East.
There are six map coverages which display faults for the Island of Puerto Rico.
Map Coverages which display normal faults are called FAULTWN, FAULTCN, and FAULTEN, which display west, central, and east fault coverages, respectively.
Map Coverages which display thrust faults and concealed faults are called FAULTW, FAULTC, and FAULTE, which display west, central, and east fault coverages, respectively.
Purpose:
The geology of the main island of Puerto Rico is displayed in three seperate coverages; West, Central, and East.
There are two coverages of faults for each of the three geologic maps; one coverage displaying normal faults, and another coverage displaying thrust faults and concealed faults.
The geologic map is presented as three panels so the user may more easily use these maps and plot them at the 1:100,000 scale. The fault coverages are divided into these same three panels.
Supplemental_Information:
The faults in these coverages represent the faults included in the 1:100,000 scale geologic map produced by Richard D. Krushensky and published in USGS Open-File Report 98-38.

Attribute_Accuracy_Report:
The faults in this coverage were extracted from the 1:100,000 scale geologic map by Richard Krushensky. The 1:100,000 scale geologic map was created by compiling 1:20,000 scale quadrangle maps. There was some interpretation involved in compiling the 1:100,000 scale map.
Faults were attributed as normal, thrust, or concealed in these maps. The faults were visually checked to insure they accurately represent what was on the geologic map.
Thrust faults were assigned a LNTYPE code of 7.
Concealed faults were assigned a LNTYPE code of 27.

The Central coverage has a Root Mean Square (RMS) error of 38.848 meters, which means locations shown on the digital coverages are within 38.848 meters of their location on the ground. This error was computed during the transformation of coordinates from scanning units (inches) to polyconic meters.

All items contained in FAULTC.AAT, except LNTYPE, are Arc/Info generated and should not be altered.
LNTYPE contains a '7' for thrust faults, or a '27' for concealed faults. These numbers represent patterns in 'pd24a.lin' lineset. See Central.Aml in the AML folder.
